Rules

General Player Conduct

By participating in any MGL event, you agree to represent yourself and your team professionally. Publicly slandering MGL, its staff, or its leagues on social media, news outlets, or other platforms is not tolerated. If you have concerns, bring them to us privately through direct messages, our support ticket system, or by email. We’re here to listen—but not in public threads.

We have zero tolerance for harassment of any kind. That includes, but isn’t limited to, anything based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation. Everyone deserves to play in a safe and respectful environment.

Our admin team is here to help the league run smoothly. Harassing or disrespecting staff can result in consequences including match forfeits, strikes, fines, or suspensions. Disagreeing with a ruling is okay—disrespect is not. Staff decisions are made with fairness and integrity, even if the outcome doesn’t always go your way.

Violations of these rules or MGL’s Terms of Service will result in a strike against the captain, player, or brand involved. Strikes are tracked across your lifetime participation in MGL events. Three strikes may lead to suspension or a permanent ban—this is at the discretion of the admin team. To remove a strike, your team or brand must complete a full season with no new infractions. MGL reserves the right to adjust disciplinary actions based on the situation.

Account Eligibility Rules

Any violations related to Take-Two Interactive’s (2K’s) Terms of Service—such as account sharing, buying/selling accounts, or badge grinding—must be reported directly to 2K. MGL does not have the ability to investigate or verify these violations. We will only step in if a player’s actions appear to give them an unfair competitive advantage within an MGL event.

All Online Identifiers (PlayStation ID or Xbox Gamertag) must be registered on your team’s official roster before competing. Using unregistered accounts will result in a forfeit. Repeated violations can lead to your team being removed from the event—no refunds will be issued in that case.

If you use multiple 2K accounts, each one must have a gamertag that clearly relates to the name you’re known by in the MGL community—ideally just a small change like one extra character.
Example: If you go by goatedba, you could register goatedba_—but not something like Big_Brudda_PURP-.

We only process stat correction requests when the in-game username matches the registered MGL username exactly. No exceptions.

If your team starts a match knowing the opposing team is breaking any league rule, you’re accepting the outcome of that game as final. Playing the game counts as agreement.

If you’re reporting an ineligible player, you must include clear, unedited proof—video, screenshots, or audio. Evidence that’s cropped, unclear, or tampered with won’t be considered.

Team Registration & Roster Rules

To compete in any MGL league or tournament, your team must complete the official registration process and pay any required registration fees. Registration is not valid until payment is received.

All registration fees are non-refundable, unless the event is canceled by MGL. In the case of cancellation, we may issue refunds in the form of league credit or through another method at MGL’s discretion.

Each team is allowed up to 10 roster spots during initial registration. If you want to add players after that point, or even before hitting 10, you’ll be charged an additional player fee. Players must select a primary position at registration, but they can play any position in-game as long as they’re officially on the roster.

Players are only allowed to compete on one team per event. Multiple accounts across teams are not allowed.

If a team captain steps down mid-season, they must notify league admins and pay the Team Ownership Transfer Fee to pass ownership to another player. The new owner can rebrand the team as they choose. If a captain leaves without properly transferring ownership, the team will be removed from the event—no exceptions.

To receive credit for your games, you must use your registered team name and logos during matches. All official team names must include “MGL” either before or after the name.
Example: MGL Giants or Giants MGL

You can only play with players who are officially listed on your MGL roster. Any roster updates—additions, removals, or gamertag changes—must be submitted through our official channels and approved by league staff.

  • Adding a player: incurs a fee
  • Removing a player: free
  • Gamertag/PSN change: requires a Player Name Change request and fee

During the postseason, teams are allowed one emergency roster move for the entire playoff run. This is for genuine emergencies only, and the replacement player must not be on another playoff team. Admin approval is required for it to count.

Using unregistered players or attempting to manipulate the system to gain an advantage—such as playing under fake names or with ghost accounts—can result in match forfeits, prize disqualification, suspensions, or bans from future MGL events.

Court, Jersey & Logo Guidelines

To keep the league clean, competitive, and professional, all teams must follow these design standards:

    Jersey Rules

    • Home jerseys must be primarily white or light gray.
    • Away jerseys can be any color except white or light gray.
    • This is to avoid confusion and make it easy for teams and viewers to tell sides apart.

    Court Rules

    • All courts must use the MGL logo somewhere on the floor. You can find it by searching for “MilitiaLeague” on the in-game logo search for PS5 or Xbox Series consoles in NBA 2K.
    • Courts must have a wood base. You’re allowed to use color in the paint area and apron, but the core of the court should maintain a natural look.
    • Only logos downloaded from the official MilitiaLeague account are considered valid.

    Logo & Design Rules

    • NBA, College, or any copyrighted logos are not allowed under any circumstance.
    • Your team’s logo must be custom-made and owned by you, a teammate, or your brand.
    • Using stolen, unlicensed, or unoriginal designs will result in a failed registration or possible league penalties.

    Admin Oversight

The MGL admin team reserves the right to request changes to your court, jerseys, or logo design at any time. This includes, but isn’t limited to:

    • Inappropriate or offensive imagery
    • Visual designs that are hard to watch or distracting
    • Anything that takes away from the competitive and professional feel of the league

Failure to comply may result in fines, match forfeits, or suspension from league events.

    Mid-Season Rebranding

If you want to change your team name, logo, or court design mid-season, you must submit a Rebranding Request and pay the Rebranding Fee. Changes without approval may result in the team being locked or disqualified.

    Gameplay Rules

To maintain fairness and integrity across all MGL events, certain gameplay mechanics, exploits, and glitches are strictly prohibited. Rules may be updated mid-season if necessary, based on review by our internal Gameplay Committee—a group of trusted community players who help shape fair play standards. These members are not MGL staff but serve as respected voices from within the competitive scene.

Important: If a new exploit emerges that negatively affects gameplay or fairness, it may be banned mid-season. Announcements will be posted in the MGL Discord and on Twitter (@MilitiaLeague).

    Current Gameplay Restrictions

    • Free Throw Settings:
You must set your “Free Throw Timing” to User Timing.
Using Real % (also known as “N/A Free Throws”) is banned. This setting can give players an unfair advantage and will result in penalties if used.
    • Dribble Exploit – Between the Legs Spam:
Repeatedly (3+ times in a row) using the between-the-legs dribble glitch with any Moving Crossover Signature Style will be considered an exploit.
      • Violations are handled case by case.
      • If it’s clear that the exploit affected the outcome of the game, a forfeit may be issued.
      • You must finish the game and submit video evidence to protest the result.
      • Commissioner’s ruling is final.

    Disputes, Evidence & Proof

If your opponent breaks a rule and you continue to play the game, you’re accepting the results—even if they were in violation. Start = accept.

All rule violations require clear proof:

    • Video recordings, screenshots, or audio
    • Evidence must be timestamped and unedited
    • We won’t act on hearsay or partial clips

To file a dispute, open a support ticket in the proper channel on Discord.
We do not accept rule complaints through Twitter threads or DMs.

    False Reporting Policy

Make sure it’s a real violation before reporting it.
If you repeatedly submit false, exaggerated, or malicious claims, your team may be removed from the event with no refund.

    Penalties

    • 1st Violation → Warning or possible forfeit
    • 2nd Violation → League removal (no refund)
    • Further consequences may include fines, suspensions, or bans—based on severity

MGL reserves the right to adjust punishments depending on context. Every situation is reviewed individually, and final decisions rest with league officials.

    Season Schedules & Tournaments

    Regular Season

Your schedule will depend on the specific event you signed up for.
Details, dates, and formats are always listed on the event registration page—please read it carefully before committing.

    Playoffs & Seeding

Playoff seeding is determined using a performance-based formula that factors in:

    • Your team’s legacy leaderboard points
    • Placement in pre-season and mid-season tournaments
    • Regular season win percentage
    • Strength of schedule (who you beat, not just how many)
    • Total games played

If teams are tied after these factors are applied, seeding among those teams will be randomized.

    Automatic Playoff Qualification

The following will guarantee your team a playoff spot (seeding still based on the formula above):

    • Being in the Top 4 for total games played
    • Having 3 or more active MGL Pro Members on your roster

Reminder: Guaranteed spots still follow the same seeding formula for placement.

    Strength of Schedule

We reward teams that play tough competition.
Beating a top-tier team means more than farming easy wins. Don’t cherry pick—play who’s on.

Note: If technical or timing issues arise, MGL reserves the right to default to traditional win percentage for seeding.

    Game Timing Rules

    • All tournament and playoff games must start by 12:30 AM Eastern.
The only exception is if both teams agree to start later, and it’s approved by an admin.
    • If a playoff or tournament series begins, it must finish the same night.
If a team signs off mid-series without mutual agreement, it counts as a forfeit. Exception: If both teams agree to continue the next day and you get admin approval in advance.

    Game Simulations & No-Shows

If a tournament or playoff game isn’t played:

    • It may be simulated with a randomly selected winner
    • Or the more active team may be advanced—based on scheduling effort, availability, and proof

If you’ve tried to schedule your game and your opponent is unresponsive:

    • Post proof (screenshots or timestamped messages) in Discord
    • Do this no more than 8 hours before the round ends, and before the deadline hits

We don’t allow extensions for conflicts with other leagues or personal tournament series. Emergency requests only.

    Timeliness & Scheduling Policy

MGL is committed to creating a competitive environment that respects the time of players, opponents, and viewers. To keep events running smoothly, the following scheduling and punctuality rules apply.

    Scheduling Games

    • Once a game time is agreed upon, both teams must create a Twitter group chat that includes:
      • Both team captains
      • An MGL admin or official account
      • The agreed-upon time
    • This chat acts as your official time confirmation.
If you do not report your game time to MGL in advance, we will not enforce on-time rules in your favor.
    • Official scheduling hours are between 7:30 PM and 12:30 AM Eastern.
Availability outside this window will not be considered valid during disputes.

    Rescheduling & Delays

    • If you need to reschedule, you must notify the opposing team at least 90 minutes in advance.
    • Series start times can only be delayed by a maximum of 1 hour, and no later than 11:30 PM ET, even if the delay is under one hour.
    • The primary platform for scheduling communication is Twitter, as all teams list their Twitter handles on the MGL site.
Discord is accepted as a secondary option.
Messages via PlayStation or Xbox are not valid for official scheduling.

    Match Start Deadlines & Penalties

    • All games must begin within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.
Both teams must be streaming, with five players in the arena.
    • Late penalties:
      • 15 minutes late = Game 1 forfeit
      • 30 minutes late = Forfeit of two games (0–2 deficit)
      • 45 minutes late = Full series forfeit (whether best-of-3 or best-of-5)
    • Teams are allowed no more than 15 minutes between games in a series.
      • Going over this time = 1 game forfeit
      • Additional 15-minute delays = further forfeits

    Emergency Exception:
If a legitimate emergency occurs, the team must immediately contact an MGL admin and the opposing team. We’ll handle emergencies on a case-by-case basis—but teams are expected to find a sub if possible.

    Administrative Discretion

MGL reserves the right not to enforce timeliness rules in certain cases, such as:

    • First-time offenses
    • Final rounds or exceptional circumstances
    • Verified emergencies (e.g. medical situations)

These exceptions are not guaranteed and are entirely at admin discretion.

    Game Disruption & Quitting Policy

You may not quit a game unless you:

    • Lag out or
    • Experience an uncontrollable event (e.g. power outage, system crash)

Quitting for reasons like “it feels laggy” without mutual agreement may result in a warning or immediate forfeit.

If both teams are in the arena but the game does not begin within 10 minutes, MGL may:

    • Coin flip the outcome
    • Or award a forfeit to the team causing the delay

Respect everyone’s time—this league runs on structure.

    Matchmaking & Lag Out Rules

MGL encourages teams to resolve minor issues amongst themselves before escalating to league staff. These rules serve as a foundation for fair competition but are not exhaustive. If any loopholes, abuses, or bad-faith behavior arise, MGL reserves the right to step in and take appropriate action—even if not explicitly listed on this page.

In short: If something violates the spirit of fair competition, we can and will address it.

    Enforceable Rules

In addition to this rulebook, any rules posted on the official MGL Twitter under the hashtag #MGLRules are fully enforceable. If any contradictions arise, the final ruling is at the sole discretion of the MGL Admin Team.

By entering any MGL event, you agree to accept all decisions made by the admin team, even if a situation falls outside the exact wording of these rules.

    Accepted Match Types

    Games may be played through:

    • Private Matchmaking (preferred)
    • Ranked Matchmaking, if both captains clearly agree beforehand (e.g., both say they’re searching in Discord or via other approved messages)

Games must be scheduled or agreed upon in the MGL Discord or Twitter DMs to count as official matches. Disputed wins require the winning team to provide proof (screenshot of win screen, with timestamp).

If your team is caught consistently trying to duck losses, “chat lurk,” or abuse matchmaking to avoid accountability, you may face suspension.

For non-league games or casual matchups, we recommend using sub-accounts or alternate courts.

    Court & Team Name Requirements

    • You must play on your official registered court, using your approved team name and logo.
    • Your team name must include “MGL” either before or after the name to get credit for wins. Example: MGL Tigers or Tigers MGL

    Server Selection Rules

MGL doesn’t restrict which server (East/West) regular season games must be played on. However, we recommend practicing on both, especially in preparation for the playoffs.

    For playoff/tournament server disputes:

    • Games alternate hosts between teams
    • Higher seed hosts Game 1, lower seed hosts Game 2, and so on
    • The final game is hosted by the team with the greater point differential during the series
    • If point differential is tied, the higher seed gets the host

If a team quits early, they are hit with a –50 point penalty.

    • The max point differential awarded for a quit is 50
    • All 5 players must quit for this to apply
    • One player must remain to capture full stats for proof

    Lag Outs & Replays

If a player lags out before tip-off, restart the match.

For in-game lag outs and 2K-related errors:

    Regular Season

    • If a player lags out while winning, the rest of the team must quit within 30 seconds for a replay to be allowed.
    • If any player keeps playing, the game counts as a loss.
    • If a lag out happens early (e.g., 1st quarter, low score differential), common sense should apply—a restart is fair. Example: Score is 7–2 in Q1 and someone lags out → Restart is expected.
    • Spread rules are not enforced in the regular season unless mutually agreed upon.

    Playoffs & Tournaments

    • If a lag out occurs, a restart may be required using a spread to reflect the current score and remaining time. Example: Team A leads 78–70 with 4:00 left and Team B lags out.
A new game is started. Team A wins tip and begins up +8.
You play for 4 minutes, then end the game.

    Rules:

    • Only points scored before the lag out count.
    • The team with a lag out must quit immediately for the rule to apply.
    • Teams may not switch builds in a restarted (spread) game.
    • Abusing this rule or suspected time-out glitching can lead to disqualification without refund.

    Final Notes on Match Integrity

    • MGL expects teams to settle issues on the court, not through petty disputes.
    • Teams that repeatedly seek free wins, manipulate loopholes, or refuse to play in good faith will develop a bad reputation and may face admin action.
    • The Admin Team has the final word on whether a result stands.

If you’re truly comp, act like it—handle your business, don’t look for shortcuts.

    Game Results Submission

All teams are responsible for reporting their games promptly and accurately. This ensures smooth stat tracking, fair standings, and timely playoff seeding. Failing to follow these guidelines may result in forfeits or removal from the league without refund.

    Regular Season Reporting

    • Winning team must submit the game result, including the full box score for both teams.
    • Only one clear screenshot is required—from the winning team.
    • Label your post properly in Discord:
      • Format: "Team A vs Team B"
      • Team A = top team in the screenshot
      • Team B = bottom team
    • Submit results in the Game Screenshots channel on the official MGL Discord.

    Playoffs & Tournament Reporting

    • The winning team of the full series must submit ALL game results, including any games they lost.
    • Failure to report full series data may result in match forfeiture.

    Deadlines & Quality Standards

    • Results must be submitted the same night the game is played or by the next morning at the latest.
    • Repeated delays in reporting may lead to penalties, match forfeits, or league removal.
    • We only accept high-quality screenshots directly from your console (PSN/Xbox capture).
      • No blurry photos
      • No pictures taken of your TV screen
    • Submissions received by 3:00 AM EST are usually processed by the next night (except Saturdays).

    Disputes & Corrections

    • If you need to dispute a result or correct a mistake in the stats, open a ticket in the MGL Discord.
    • Do not attempt to dispute games via Twitter timeline or DMs—these will be ignored.
    • If it’s been more than 3 days and your submitted result isn’t showing in the standings, reach out to us via the appropriate MGL Twitter account or support contact.

    Social Media Note

Posting game results on Twitter is encouraged for visibility and branding—but this does NOT count as an official tournament or season result submission.
Use Discord only for league reporting.

    Unplayed Game Reporting (Playoffs Only)

If you’ve done your part to schedule a playoff or tournament game and your opponent hasn’t, you must post proof of your efforts in the MGL Discord before the round deadline.

    • Post no earlier than 8 hours before the round ends
    • Late or missing proof = game may be simulated or ruled against you

    MGL Memberships & Subscriptions

MGL offers optional membership subscriptions for players and teams who want to elevate their experience, gain access to exclusive perks, and unlock added benefits within our league system.

Each membership tier comes with its own set of features. These may include—but aren’t limited to—priority scheduling, stat boosts, early access to events, exclusive Discord channels, or premium branding options.

For full details, visit the [Memberships Page] to explore all available tiers and benefits.

    Subscription Terms

By purchasing a monthly MGL subscription, you agree to the following:

    • You’ll be charged an initial and recurring monthly fee based on your selected membership tier.
    • If your plan includes a free trial, the first payment will be delayed until the trial ends.
After that, the regular monthly charge will begin automatically.
    • Your subscription will auto-renew each month at the then-current rate unless you cancel beforehand.
    • You’re responsible for all recurring charges unless and until you cancel.

You may cancel at any time, subject to the terms outlined in our [Cancellation Policy]. Access to membership perks will remain active until the end of your billing cycle.

    Subscription Fees & Billing

Your selected payment method will be automatically charged each month on the same calendar day as your original subscription date.

Example: If you subscribed on January 31, your renewal for February will occur on the last day of the month (February 28 or 29).

Any discounts, trials, or promotional offers apply only to your initial subscription term. After that, your subscription will renew at the standard monthly rate for your chosen membership tier.

If MGL is unable to process your renewal due to invalid or outdated payment information, your subscription—and access to membership features—may be terminated without notice.

Access to membership benefits only begins after successful payment of your subscription fee.

    Cancellation Policy

You may cancel your MGL membership subscription at any time through your account dashboard.

The only valid way to cancel is by using the cancellation link located in your user dashboard after logging into the official MGL website.

Requests to cancel via email, phone, Discord, or social media will not be accepted and do not count as a valid cancellation.

    Access After Cancellation

Canceling your subscription does not remove your access immediately.

Your membership benefits will remain active until the end of your current billing cycle.

Example: If your billing date is the 10th of each month and you cancel on April 25, your access will continue until May 10.

No partial refunds are issued for unused time.

    Refund Policy

Subscription fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.

Once a subscription payment has been processed, no refunds will be issued for any reason, including unused membership time or cancellation prior to the end of the billing cycle.
